前言

This textbook is a record of our collective fire history.

这是一本消防历史集大成者之教科书。

It contains a compendium of building fires, recent and long ago, large and small, which offer hard-earned lessons on firefighter safety as well as insights on firefighting strategies and tactics.

Many of these lessons have cost the fire service dearly, in the form of the supreme sacrifice.

Since the 2007 publication of the last edition, the fire service has continued to suffer greatly in terms of reduced staffing in many departments.

During the preparation of the last edition, we lost the fire service legend Frank Brannigan.

 Since the last edition, we lost his beloved wife Maureen.

She always made sure Frank’s projector slides were in order and ready to go.
